Jama Bridge Jumping #AtoZChallenge

¨If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump too?¨
-- Parents to kids everywhere

Jama is a town in a beautiful area of coastal Ecuador. We were passing through on a hot day. Teenagers congregated on the bridge heading into town. The water below promised relief from the heat.

One boy jumped from the bridge walkway. Everyone cheered. He scrambled back up the riverbank while another boy jumped. The first boy raised the bar by climbing to the top of the bridge and jumping.
Jumping from the top
Jama, Ecuador

Huge cheers for him. From the water, he yelled up to challenge his friends.
Challenging his friends
Jama, Ecuador
One climbed to the top, hesitated a bit while friends yelled encouragement, then jumped. He emerged from the water with a wide smile.

Great way to cool off on a hot day, if you are willing to jump.

Have you ever jumped from a bridge?

If you are visiting from the #AtoZChallenge please include your blog link in a comment so I can check it out.

    1. The first time he jumped, I held my breath because of how far it was. It is why I took the pictures when he made the jump from the top.

  2. Nope, no bridge jumping for me. That water does look deep though!

I'm really enjoying your blog posts! I can hardly wait to have some time to go into your archives and read up on your adventures!

    1. Oh, you will find a scarcity of posts prior to this A-Z challenge. I always meant to blog but did not do much until this month. I did post a few prior to our move, when we were selling our stuff and house.

  3. That bridge looks a little too high for me. I'm not brave when it comes to heights. Event a rope swing makes me a little nervous. WeekendsInMaine

    1. I am also not a huge fan of heights. It is why I am not in the photo but behind the lens instead :)

    1. The second boy was so excited after he did but that still was not enough to convince the rest of their friends.

  6. I've done a lot of stupid things when young, including jumping off bridges. But I think I'm old enough to know better now!

    1. Stupid things in youth sometimes make for good stories later. They also sometimes lead to hospital visits or worse. It is fun to watch others do them now (as long as they do not involve the hospital visit).

  7. Hi Emily - oh that makes me cringe - I've jumped into a deep (thankfully!) creek, because I couldn't go back - and just went down and down (keep your legs together!) eventually I came up ... but lungs were bursting, though I'm sure partly through sheer terror! I would not repeat that episode and sometimes I still have bad dreams about it ... cheers Hilary

  8. I think I got a new grey hair just reading this! Although when I was young I used to walk across an I-beam that forded a creek near my house. So it's true -- when young we are more physically daring

    1. Yes, youth is a more daring time. Good thing the young bounce back and heal quickly.

  9. Even in my wild (ha!)youth, I would not have been able to jump off a bridge like that. I barely jumped off the dock.

  10. No I haven't jumped from a bridge but I have jumped from a large Boulder into Tenkiller Lake in Oklahoma not far from Tahlequah. It was a good 20 foot drop

  11. No, jumping off the side of a pool is high enough for me. I would never ever jump off a bridge!

  14. Crazy kids! I haven't jumped off any bridges, but there are bridges along a highway - one lane bridges - that people sometimes jump into. Very carefully because if you jump in the wrong place, you could end up in shallow water. There have been injuries. The other thing is cliff jumping. I think I jumped off a 40 (30? 50?) foot cliff or bluff into a swimming hole and that was enough! Boy, it burned going down. If you ever have to jump from high into water, try to jump straight! 1. With all of the bridges on Maui, I can see how there would be injuries. Way to go on the cliff jumping, Courtney! That is high! Thanks for the technique advice. I will remember it and hope to never need it.
